Erin M Wampole, MSc I am interested in problem solving within wildlife conservation and management field to facilitate sustainable wildlife populations in the face of intensifying anthropogenic pressures.
Along these lines, I have traditionally studied rare and cryptic species. My work and past field contributions have primarily been focused on terrestrial carnivores. As a M.Sc. student in Dr. Geber's, Applied Quantitative Ecology Lab, I studied the effects of forest edge and invasive predators (free-ranging dogs and cats) on endemic & threatened carnivores of Madagascar. For this work I used occupancy modeling frameworks to elucidate species interactions and how those interactions may influence habitat use from remote trail camera data. Generally, I enjoy thinking about complex ecological problems. I am in interested in how human disturbance (i.e. landscape change, invasive species, human-wildlife conflict) influence resource use. I am also interested in how we can best examine species interactions or community dynamics from empirical field data to improve projections and predicted management outcomes using advanced statistical modeling. I enjoy working on collaborative projects within interdisciplinary teams and wish to apply my research within the context of a social-ecological system. I ultimately aim to contribute my "piece of the pie" to ongoing conservation issues and seek opportunities for capacity building to maintain species persistence under intensifying anthropogenic pressures. Personal: I spend most of my free time with my dog, Indy. Our favorite activities are those that take place outdoors including, rock climbing, hiking, trail running, biking, kayaking, and paddle boarding. I find peace in the solitude of public lands and open spaces. I love coffee. |
